Types Of Battery Chargers

The size of a vehicle’s automobile batteries should not be considered. Though tiny, it plays several important functions in keeping the vehicle functioning properly. Functions such as starting your automobile, powering the infotainment system, headlights, and so on. The car’s battery is charged by the running engine. The battery will ultimately expire after several cycles over the course of a year and will need to be replaced.

1. Batteries for starting, lighting, and ignition (SLI)
Most cars on the road are equipped with starting, lighting, and ignition batteries, or SLI batteries for short. Part from starting the automobile, it also powers all the electronics such as the interior and exterior lighting, the entertainment system, and so on. The charging cycle of a SLI battery is quite short. That means, the time required for the battery to charge and subsequently discharge is quite short. This sort of battery, like the starting motor in a car, can supply power in brief bursts of time. The SLI batteries are made up of six galvanic cells arranged in series to produce a system that provides 12 volts. At full charge, each cell delivers 2.1 volts, for a total output of around 12.6 volts.

2. Batteries made of lithium-ion (Li-ion)
This is one of the most underrated batteries since it is primarily used in PHEVs and is somewhat more expensive than a standard Lead-Acid battery. For the past few years, a Lithium-ion Battery has become well-known. A Li-ion battery is used in contemporary hybrid and electric automobiles. When compared to conventional batteries, the Li-ion battery holds much more charge. Another advantage is that these batteries are lighter than normal automobile batteries of the same capacity. Regardless of application, the life expectancy of Li-ion batteries is around 5-10 years.

3. Batteries made of lead-acid
These are the batteries that require the least amount of maintenance. Lead-Acid batteries, unlike other types of batteries, are sealed and cannot be maintained. These batteries are solely replaceable. Lead-Acid Batteries also give power to the starting motor in brief spurts.
